Oil industry lobbyists are launching a preemptive attack to thwart introduction of a Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) when the Senate environment committee considers climate legislation this fall, conducting initial advocacy work to make sure that Chair Barbara Boxer (D-CA) doesn’t include an LCFS in her committee’s initial draft or accept a possible amendment Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) might offer to the bill, as he has done in previous climate legislation debates, say sources representing major and independent oil companies.
