Low Carbon Fuel Standard Draws Concerns over Transparency

According to an Inside Cal/EPA report, “environmentalists are raising concerns about inadequate public access to information related to the approval of new fuels” for the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) while “industry representatives are warning officials about the need to protect trade-secret information tied to the development of new biofuels that meet the LCFS.”

Inside Cal/EPA says these are just some of the many issues that the California Air Resources Board (CARB) remain to be resolved before the first reporting requirements on California fuel suppliers kick in 2011. “How regulators resolve these issues is being closely watched by stakeholders across the country, including state and federal regulators, because the California program is a model that has been proposed in other states and in Congress.” For the full report, click here (subscription required).
